CCICT Inititatives:
- Business Technology Management (BTM), a new, professional undergraduate university program. BTM improves the quality and quantity of business professionals capable of implementing ICTs to improve productivity, innovation, entrepreneurship, and competitive advantage.
- CareerMash spreads the word about the endless possibilities of today’s tech careers.
- CareerMash Events. CareerMash Youth Tech Jam, Role Model Program, and more…
There is a serious lack of awareness about the exciting career opportunities that exist right now in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). No longer about routine programming, ICT-related careers are about collaborating to find creative and innovative solutions to problems in all areas.
Change perceptions about ICT-related careers
Whether it’s educators who need to make better choices about their offerings, or young career choosers who need to understand the potential of high value ICT-related careers, CCICT’s mission is to bring Canada’s 21st century technology-related careers to the forefront.
CCICT’s initiatives will change perceptions by:
- Increasing awareness about exciting, cutting edge, next-generation ICT careers among young career choosers, parents, teachers, employers and the media
- Motivating more career choosers in their teens and early 20s to select these next generation ICT-related careers and education paths
- Place a special focus on attracting young women to technology careers
- Providing information, mentoring, and other supports that help young people to make good choices and to hang in when the going gets tough
Implement solutions based on research
CCICT conducts research to understand the issues Canadian industry faces in terms of ICT resources and skills, identifying the current situation, predicting future trends and seeks practical solutions to ensure that Canadian organizations can hire the ICT professionals they need to meet the changing and diverse needs of the 21st century workforce.
Influence public strategy regarding Canada’s Digital Strategy
CCICT ensures that the need to improve the quantity of high value ICT-skilled workers is on the public policy agenda at national, provincial and local levels of government. The concerns of CCICT members were voiced in Canada: The Go-to Country for Brainpower Resources in the Global Digital Economy, a submission to the federal government in response to the May 2009 consultation paper seeking advice that will shape a multi-year digital economy strategy for Canada.
